Surface Slip Resistance is measured in-house in accordance with the UK SLIP Resistance Group Guidelines Publication, “The Assessment of Floor Slip Resistance, Issue 4/2011" using a Munro Stanley Portable Pendulum Skid Tester. This test measures the coefficient of friction of a floor surface and the results are used to provide a slip potential classification. A pendulum test value (PTV) of 36 or higher is classified as low risk. 

The Pendulum Test works by replicating a heel striking the floor surface. The heel is the point most floor slips occur and the pendulum slip test duplicates this dynamically. 

The device swings a rubber slider mounted on a weighted ‘foot’ (1) from horizontal, striking the floor surface near vertical (2) and subsequently providing a reading - Pendulum Test Value (PTV) (3) as the foot swings back up. 
The pendulum test value (PTV) is compared to a chart generated by the UK SLIP Resistance group to determine the potential for slip. A Pendulum Test Value of above 36 is a low potential for slip. 
The pendulum slip tester remains the preferred equipment to measure slip of the Health and Safety Executive and UK Slip Resistance Group.
Gloss is measured in-house in accordance with ASTM D523 “Standard Test Method for 60 degree specular Gloss of Emulsion Floor Polish” using a TQC hand held Glossmeter. Gloss is measured by shining a known amount of light at a surface and quantifying the reflectance.
Gloss is greatly influenced by a number of factors, including smoothness achieved during polishing, the amount of polish applied and the quality of the polish.

The Gloss Test Symbol shown here is used to indicate the increase in Gloss Units to a floor surface after applying Clover floorcare products before any burnishing has taken place.
