What is the TRECOS?

TRECOS  -  is the new ecological standard pioneered by Clover Chemicals to clarify a products green credentials, and we have awarded it to a specially selected range of existing products which attain excellent environmental performance.

These products will now carry the TRECOS logo, which covers all aspects of a products environmental profile, including transport impact, biodegradability, packaging, energy etc.

Products are awarded the TRECOS mark if they obtain a low product category score according to the TRECOS Ten Rules of environmental impact. Products with the TRECOS mark reduce the impact of the cleaning process on the environment.

TRECOS accreditation is based on ten factors Clover Chemicals believes are fundamental to the evaluation of the ecological and environmental impact of products in the cleaning industry.

TRECOS Ten Factors

TRECOS accreditation is based on ten rules Clover Chemicals believes are fundamental to the evaluation of the ecological and environmental impact of products in the cleaning industry. The impact on the environment is calculated based on the following 10 factors:

Raw materials
Raw materials used are scored for impact, the higher the impact the higher the score.
Packaging Ratio
Products are scored for their packaging ratio, the more packaging for each litre of solution, the higher the score.
Environmental Hazard Classification
Raw materials are scored according to their environmental classification.
H400, H410, H411, H412 and H413. The higher the impact the higher the score.
Volatile Organic Compound content
The higher the level of V.O.Cs the higher the score.
Energy
The energy used to obtain the finished product is taken into account. The more energy used the higher the score.
Health and/or Physico - chemical properties.
The product is evaluated for potential adverse health effects and adverse physico/chemical properties. The more adverse the properties the higher the score.
Consumer Use
How often the product is used and the control over its use are scored. The higher score is given to products used in an uncontrolled fashion daily.
Biocidal Products
Biocidal products are scored depending upon whether they have a necessary function to protect public hygiene and the registration of the active ingredients in Europe.
A high score is given to products that do not have a necessary function to protect public hygiene.
Clear Labelling
A high score is given to those products without clear user instructions.
Biodegradation
The manufacturing process produces waste which is controlled and disposed of in a responsible fashion.
This is scored according to the environmental impact of each products waste.
